Bangkok Temple’s & Wat’s

Grand Palace – The grand palace is exactly what the name suggests, the largest and most fantastic of all the Temple’s in Bangkok. Upmost respect and care must always be taken when you are going to walk on the Grand Palace grounds as it is considered holy by the Thai people. Please ensure you do not have your feet facing the Emerald Buddha, you will know it when you walk in as it is the main focal point for tourist’s, monks, Thai’s and anyone else who may walk onto the Grand Palace grounds.

Along the walls of the Grand Palace, you will find pictures, drawing and murals depicting (of) the epic Ramakian fable which is known very well by the Thai people. Admission is free for Thai people but has a charge of 350bht if you are a foreigner; the Palace and temple are open from 8:30 – 4:30. In order to enter the palace, you need to ensure you are wearing a Long Sleeve T-Shirt, and long pants with closed shoes. Shorts, Flip-flops, Skirts are all not allowed and you will be turned away.

Wat Phra Kaew: Located on the grounds of the Grand Palace, Wat Phra Kaew is the most fantastic and popular temple in Bangkok. Some of the most fantastic, and well-designed Temples can be seen from this location and you are also given access to the Grand Palace. Although the Palace is not as amazing as Wat Phra Kaew, it does give some insight to the new-baroque design that was used!

Wat Phra Kaew also has a coin museum and there are a number of fine murals on display for all to behold! Location for the Grand Palace & Wat Phra Kaew is Rattanakosin district. Na Phralan Road, (02) 623 5500 ext. 1124, open daily: 08:30 to 16:30.

Wat Po: Wat Po is situated next to The Grand Palace and is a showing of very complex, amazingly designed & brilliant to look at Thai Temple’s. Bangkok Deals believes that the most impressive feature that Wat Po has to offer would be the gigantic Buddha statue which reclines at over 40 meters!
It is also famous as it is an ancient school of massage, and no not the kind with a happy ending! Wat Po is an impressive example to what man is capable of when we need to be! Wat Po is located on 2 Sanamchai Road, Phra Nakhon, (02) 225 9595, open daily 08:00 to 21:00, fee: Thais: free,

Wat Arun: Set next to the river, the Wat Arun (Also known as Temple Of Dawn) this is an amazing and spectacular temple; having an 82 meter spire set right in the dead centre, this is a fantastic sight to see and take some photos back for the family! Wat Arun makes a spectacular sunset backdrop for all your photos!
Located beside the Grand Palace opposite the Sanam Luang ground. Na Phrathat Road, Phra Borommaharatchawang, Phra Nakhon, (02) 224 1333, open: Wed. to Sun. 09:00 to 16:00, fee: Thais: 30 baht, foreigners: 200 baht.

Wat Mahathat: This is the HQ for Thailand’s biggest monastic order and Vipassana Meditation Centre. This temple is easily, one of the most important (perhaps most) in regards to the study of Buddhism, how it came to be and the inside’s to Meditation.
While most students in this centre are Thai, it does allow western’s and does not impose any special fee for them.

Wat Traimit: Wat Traimit, also known as Temple Of The Golden Buddha – would easily be a favourite of Bangkok Deals. This temple is located at the end of Chinatown’s Yaowaret Rd. It is very very old; in fact it is actually the world’s oldest seated Buddha, at over 5 meters in height! In the past, Golden Budah’s where hidden by sticking things over the top to hide the fact it is gold.

Wat Sutat: Wat Sutat, also known as The Great Swing is a brilliant Thai Temple. Known for its amazing roof, decorated with murals and art work by people from all over the world who came to Study Buddhism. Walking in, you will see a huge dead teak arch; this is all that is left from the original tree that grew in this temple!

Wat Saket: Wat Saket is also known as the Temple of the Golden Mount. It is famous for the many Budah’s that sit in this temple, watching over it! It is known from many Movies and many will find it very similar to that of the Movie Mulan (although she was Chinese).
