Kerri’s Dental trip – Part 2

Accompanied by my daughter we returned to Bangkok on 12th February looking forward to having teeth once again. After a peaceful sleep we awoke and did some sightseeing prior to my afternoon appointment. Once again we were collected from our hotel and delivered to the dental surgery where the Dentist began to prepare the bridgework to support the crowns that would be mounted onto the implants I had inserted on my previous trip. That afternoon I left with my temporary denture still in place.

I returned the following day and had my original lower teeth whitened, due to their poor condition I was not completely happy with the outcome, (I should point out that the whitening procedure was fine but it highlighted the poor condition of my original teeth).

Considering the cost savings here in Bangkok I decided to fully crown my lower teeth as well.

My appointments were mostly scheduled for afternoon or evening which suited me fine, as it allowed us to enjoy the days visiting the various markets and shopping centres etc.

The following evening I selected the colour of my crowns, the dentist requested my daugher be involved in this decision as he explained  that once the crowns are fitted you are unable to change your mind. About 40 minutes later the dentist returned and proceeded to secure what I thought were my new set of crowns.  They looked that good I rang my husband that night telling him how perfect they looked, I was over the moon.

I did not have to visit the surgery for two days and when I returned the dentsit enquired how everything felt, was I happy with the fit, the alignment and shape of the teeth?, to which I replied, “they are absolutely wonderful, I could not be any happier”. Imagine what an idiot I felt when he replied, ” if your happy with that how will you feel when you leave here tonight with your new crowns!”.

What I thought were my new teeth were actually a composite replica, fitted to ensure the alignment, shape, fit and colour were to my complete satisfaction. I was impressed by this process as it highlighted the care and attention to detail this surgery is renowned

for. I left the surgery 90 minutes later with my brand new perfect upper teeth, they looked and felt terrific.

The following afternoon I had an impression taken of my lower teeth and the dentist began the process of filing my original lower teeth to accept the crowns that I had decided on, these were fitted the following day and they as well looked absolutely brilliant.

It was on day 12 I had the remaining two lower implants fitted into the now perfectly healed bone graft that had been performed on the previous trip, compared to my previous experience this was ” a walk in the park”, and the level of discomfort was greatly reduced.

I am due to return in October 2011 to have my final 4 crowns fitted and that will complete my procedure.

To date I have had 10 implants, 22 crowns and bone grafting surgery during the two trips to Bangkok, allowing for my airfares and accommodation I have expended approximately  $30,000 AUD ( $24000 if my husband asks). I will also receive a tax break of approximately $6000. When you do the maths you are saving well over 50% on the same procedures as performed in Australia.

I cannot speak highly enough of the Dr Sunil Dental Clinic, their clients are treated like royalty. From the time you are picked up from the airport the attention they lavish on the client is amazing, they take the time to explain every detail on the various procedures about to be undertaken, you are completely informed of what you will encouter along the way, a full costing is presented and there are no hidden extras. Their drivers pick you up exactly on time day in and day out and are always happy and cheerful. Appointments are very flexible in order for you to have as much “holiday” time as possible. The dental nurses are caring and compassionate and treat you like family. Joy and Wendy are absolute angels and are a credit to the surgery.

I end this note with a huge thank you to Dr Sunil and all of his loyal and caring staff who work together to make the experience as comfortable and pleasant as possible, I look forward to visiting with you again in October.
